Updated vaccination protocols

Vanguard Logo

Dear Valued Client,

Thank you for choosing Southside Veterinary Clinic to be your family veterinarian. We appreciate your continued support of our private, locally owned veterinary clinic. Today we write to inform you of a protocol change regarding vaccinations which will go into effect January 1, 2024.

In keeping, with the current guidelines of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), we will be adjusting our vaccination protocol to include 3 year boosters of DH2PP vaccines (commonly referred to as distemper parvo vaccine) and FVRCP vaccines (commonly referred to as feline respiratory or feline distemper vaccine), 2 year booster of Feline Leukemia vaccines, and 3 year booster of Rabies Vaccine for all adult animals. All other vaccinations, including puppy and kitten series vaccines, will remain the same as current research does not support longer duration of immunity.

With this new protocol, timing of vaccinations in regards to due date is especially important.  Currently, our system generates reminders 6 weeks prior to your pet’s due date.  A current e-mail and/or cell phone number help us to provide these alerts to you in a timely matter.  Please call to schedule your appointment as soon as possible upon receiving notification as vaccine appointments per day are limited to help us accommodate as many sick patient exams as possible.

To continue to provide appropriate care and maintain the state mandated veterinary-client-patient relationship we will still require an annual wellness examination and current rabies vaccination to be considered a current client/patient of SVC.  This will ensure you may still purchase flea preventative, heartworm preventative (with current heartworm test), updated rabies tag, and receive your license certificate.  As always, registration with your city or county of residence is your responsibility as a pet owner.

Thank you in advance for helping us to implement this change for the continued health and safety of our patients.  If you have an upcoming appointment and would like to start this protocol sooner than January 1st, please alert our staff and we would be happy to accommodate you.  If you have questions or concerns with the protocol change, please call us at 316-681-0261 or email us at technician@southsidevc.com.  A veterinary technician and/or veterinarian will be happy to address your concerns.

Sincerely,

The Staff of Southside Veterinary Clinic
